Students from “Ivan Vazov” Secondary School, Sopot, took part in the Forth National Spelling Bee Competition. More than 6400 students from 264 schools in the country will participate in school level competitions after months of hard training from 10 to 15 March, 2014. The winners at the first and the second place will represent their schools at regional level competitions which will be held in 10 cities on April12, 2014. The top 30 students will take part in the National competition in “Hilton” Hotel on 10 May 2014. On this Competition will be determined the Spelling Bee Winner of Bulgaria.

The School Level competition of The Forth National Spelling Bee was held at school library from 13.45 p.m. on 12 March , 2014. Thirty students from 4th up to 7th grade attended in the event. They spelled the words in 14 rounds. After the initial shock and the dropping of students from the lower grades, the forces were equalized and in the last 14th round the winner was Milena Petrova Petrova, VII V class. The winner word was SHELL. The Second place was awarded to Ivan Dimitrov Minchev VII B class.

Milena Petrova and Ivan Minchev will present the “Ivan Vazov” Secondary School at the Regional Level in Plovdiv.

Spelling Bee is a traditional American Competition in which the participants spell the pronounce the word given letter by letter. The aim of the competition is to increase the students’ interest in learning English and to improve their knowledge through fun and interactive activities. The competition is organized by the “House Education and Development – KORPlus”. It has been in partnership with “America for Bulgaria”, the USA Embassy, and it is under the auspices of the Ministry of Education and Science.
