The 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games were opened on 25th July in Los Angeles, California by the American President’s wife Michele Obama on a glittering ceremony. 6,500 athletes with intellectual disabilities from 165 nations were competing in 25 Olympic-type sports. 23 participants formed the Bulgarian team, and they won 44 prices in 10 Olympics-type sports. Bulgarian children won 22 silver prices, 15 bronze prices, seven children from the team are with special intellectual disabilities. Veselin Todorov Monev - a student in 7th G grade is a great pride of  High School “Ivan Vazov”, Sopot. His hard trainings in gymnastics were crowned with a great success.

Results of Veselin Monev, Special Olympics,  Sopot:

- the long jump – a silver medal

- in 100 M  running – a fourth place

- in long running  4 x 100m – the fourth place

 

In the biggest sports event in the world for people with intellectual disabilities, this  kind of people has proved that young people are full of spirit, enthusiasm, teamwork,  joy for good performance and they have their place in society.
